High purity ethanol used as a solvent in perfume production. It has a characteristic alcohol scent that quickly evaporates, leaving space for the fragrance composition. Ethanol helps evenly disperse essential oils and aromatic compounds, ensuring long-lasting and consistent fragrance evaporation on the skin and clothing.

This ethanol is denatured, making it unsuitable for food use. It is used not only in perfumes but also in cosmetics and hygiene products due to its quick evaporation and ability to disinfect surfaces. Ideal for perfume making in home settings or industrial production.

Main properties:

  • Effective solvent for aromatic compounds
  • Promotes even fragrance dispersion and longevity
  • Evaporates quickly
  • Suitable for creating various types of fragrances

How to Prepare Perfume Using Denatured Ethanol 5F

Ingredients Needed:

  • Denatured Ethanol 5F (Alcohol Denat.) – Acts as the base solvent for dissolving essential oils or fragrance oils.
  • Fragrance Oils or Essential Oils – The main scent component (10-30% concentration, depending on desired strength).
  • Distilled Water (optional) – Used to adjust the perfume concentration.
  • Fixatives (optional) – To help slow down evaporation and enhance longevity (e.g., glycerin, benzoin, ambroxan, sandalwood oil).
  • Bottles and Mixing Equipment – Dark glass bottles to store the perfume, pipettes, beakers, and a mixing container.

Perfume Concentration Guide:

  • Eau de Cologne (EDC) – 2-5% fragrance oil
  • Eau de Toilette (EDT) – 5-15% fragrance oil
  • Eau de Parfum (EDP) – 15-20% fragrance oil
  • Perfume/Parfum – 20-30% fragrance oil

Steps to Prepare Perfume:

  • Use 70-90% of the total volume as denatured ethanol 5F.
  • Dissolve the Fragrance Oils - Add the essential or fragrance oils to the ethanol and stir well.
  • Add Fixatives (Optional) - To improve longevity, add 1-5% of a fixative such as benzoin, orris root tincture, or a resin-based essential oil.
  • Rest the Mixture - Let the mixture age in a cool, dark place for 2-6 weeks for the scents to blend (maceration).
  • Filter the Perfume - If needed, filter out sediment using a coffee filter or fine mesh.
  • Dilute with Distilled Water (If Needed) - If the scent is too strong, add distilled water in small amounts.
  • Bottle and Store - Store in dark glass bottles to protect the scent.

Important Notes about Ethanol 5F:

  • Check compatibility, as some denatured alcohols contain additives that can alter the scent or cause irritation.
  • Denatured ethanol evaporates quickly, so using a fixative is recommended for a longer-lasting fragrance.
