Polysorbate 80 is suitable for the preparation of bath oils that dissolve in water, shower oils, and makeup removal oils, which turn into a milky consistency when in contact with water and do not leave an oily layer on the skin. It is also used in oil-based scrubs and massage oils, which are easy to rinse off. This additive prevents oil separation while maintaining its moisturizing effect on the skin. Polysorbate 80 is non-irritating, has a low allergy risk, and is non-toxic, making it safe for use in cosmetics for sensitive skin.
Solubility: soluble in oil, partially soluble in water, insoluble in glycerin.
Dosage: 1%-20%, lower concentrations in toners, shampoos, and cleansing products, higher concentrations (15%-20%) in massage oils, makeup removal, and shower oils made without water additives.
Polysorbate 80 is also used in liquid soaps and shampoos when adding oils (e.g., essential, vegetable, or aromatic oils) to ensure proper oil dissolution in the shampoo. The typical ratio is 1:1 to 4:1.
