Natural Face Cream – Easy DIY Recipe

Table of contents

Would you like to make your own face cream? This simple recipe combines aloe vera gel, jojoba oil, shea butter and vitamin E to create a gentle, moisturizing cream for everyday skincare.

Making your own face cream allows you to choose suitable ingredients and adjust the texture to your preferences. Since this cream contains both water and oils, a suitable emulsifier and preservative are essential.

Ingredients

  • Distilled water – 70 g
  • Vegetable glycerin – 4 g
  • Aloe vera gel – 5 g
  • Jojoba oil – 8 g
  • Shea butter – 3 g
  • Emulsifier – 6 g
  • Vitamin E oil – 1 g
  • Preservative – according to the manufacturer's recommended concentration

Yield: approximately 100 g of face cream.

Important: The exact amount of preservative depends on the product selected. Choose a preservative suitable for the formulation's pH and follow its usage instructions. Adjust the amount of distilled water as necessary to bring the total weight of the ingredients to 100 g.

How to Make the Face Cream

  1. Prepare your workspace. Clean and disinfect your work surfaces, utensils and cream container.
  2. Prepare the water phase. Combine the distilled water and glycerin in a heat-resistant container.
  3. Prepare the oil phase. In a separate heat-resistant container, combine the jojoba oil, shea butter and emulsifier.
  4. Heat both phases. Heat both containers in a water bath to the temperature recommended by the emulsifier manufacturer, allowing the shea butter and emulsifier to melt completely.
  5. Combine the phases. Following the emulsifier manufacturer's instructions, combine the water and oil phases. Mix using a suitable mixer until a uniform emulsion forms.
  6. Cool the mixture. Continue stirring as the cream cools. Add the aloe vera gel, vitamin E and preservative at the temperatures specified by their manufacturers.
  7. Check the cream. Measure the pH and adjust it if necessary to meet the requirements of the chosen preservative and formulation.
  8. Package the cream. Transfer the finished cream into a clean, disinfected jar or dispenser bottle.

How to Use

Apply a small amount of cream to clean facial and neck skin. Massage gently until absorbed.

The cream can be used in the morning and evening. Before using it for the first time, perform a patch test on a small area of skin.

What Do the Ingredients Do?

Distilled water forms the water phase of the cream and helps create a lightweight consistency.

Vegetable glycerin is a humectant that attracts moisture and helps maintain skin hydration.

Aloe vera gel helps moisturize the skin and provides a pleasant, soothing feel.

Jojoba oil softens the skin and helps reduce moisture loss.

Shea butter nourishes and softens dry skin while giving the cream a richer texture.

Emulsifier helps combine the water and oil phases to create a stable, creamy consistency.

Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant, helping protect the oils in the formulation from oxidation. It does not replace a preservative.

Preservative helps protect water-containing cosmetic products against microbial growth.

Storage

Store the cream in a clean, tightly closed container, following the storage recommendations provided by the ingredient and preservative manufacturers.

Important: Without microbiological testing and preservative efficacy testing, it is not possible to reliably determine the shelf life of homemade face cream. Discontinue use if you notice any changes in smell, color or consistency.

Tip: The texture and stability of the cream depend on the emulsifier used. Always follow the manufacturer's recommended usage concentration and preparation temperature.
